Happy 250th, America. Here's to the Operators Who Keep Commerce Independent.

Two hundred and fifty years ago, a group of people decided they were done being managed by an institution that didn't have their interests in mind.

Sound familiar?

We're not going to overextend that metaphor. But there is something worth saying this week, as the country marks its 250th birthday, about the people who built American commerce from the ground up — and the ones still doing it today.

Independent operators. Small business owners. The ATM fleet runner who started with two machines and now manages fifty. The c-store owner who figured out that payments were a profit center, not just a utility. The merchant who got dropped by a processor for being in the wrong industry and found a better partner instead of giving up. These are not people who were handed anything. They chose the harder path because the easier one meant answering to someone who didn't understand their business.

That's a pretty American impulse, if you think about it.

Cash has been part of this country's commerce since before there was a country. It predates card networks, payment processors, digital wallets, and every fintech startup that has ever described itself as "disrupting" something. It has survived every prediction of its demise. In 2026, cash still accounts for a meaningful share of transactions across the sectors our customers serve — convenience stores, dispensaries, event venues, independent retail. The customers using those businesses aren't cashless. They're cash-forward, and they're spending.

The operators who serve them understand something that the financial services industry has occasionally tried to forget: not every customer has a bank account, not every business fits a standard risk profile, and not every transaction belongs on a network that charges you for the privilege. Cash is not a legacy system. It's a feature.

Here's the Move

Clear Choice exists for a specific kind of business owner — one who chose independence and needs a payment partner who actually understands what that means. Not a partner who processes your transactions until you become inconvenient. Not a one-size-fits-all processor built for a merchant that doesn't look like you.

We work with ATM operators who built their fleets transaction by transaction. Merchants who fought for their processing relationships. Business owners in industries that other providers won't touch. People running operations that require a partner who shows up, knows the industry, and doesn't treat complexity like a liability.

That's the business we're in. It's the only business we're in.

So this week, as the country marks 250 years of independence, we're raising one for the operators. The ones who bet on themselves. The ones who built something real. The ones who understood that financial independence — real independence, not just a marketing phrase — means owning your payment stack, knowing your numbers, and working with partners who are actually on your side.

Here's to another 250. And to the next operator who decides the harder path is worth it.

From everyone at Clear Choice: happy birthday, America.
